History of the Norro lift
74 years of history and tradition
The 180-metre-long drag lift at 1,300 meters above sea level has been an integral part of Adelboden for 74 years. Started in 1950 by Adelboden mountain farmer Johann “Hani” Zryd and his wife Rosina with a diesel engine and hemp rope, the lift takes its name from the American manufacturer NORO – where the second “R” comes from remains a mystery to this day. Annerösli Zryd, the daughter of the lift’s founder, also made her first turns here. She became downhill world champion in Val Gardena/Gröden in 1970. Alongside her, countless other winter sports enthusiasts have learned to ski on the sunny Norro slope. Thanks to the commitment of the friends of the Tschentenalp, the future of this special piece of Adelboden history is assured.
